The birth of a first child marks a turning point in the lives of young parents. In Now threeauthor-cartoonist Virginie Bergeret evokes the significant moments of a child's first year of life. The felt-tip illustrations flow from one page to the next in accordion mode. An original format for a simple and universal story.
As its title suggests Now three is an album which evokes the birth of a child in a classic parental couple (dad and mother). Inspired by her own experience of motherhood, Virginie Bergeret's text is written in a fairly impersonal manner, without first names, as if to better underline the timeless and universal character of “becoming a parent”.
If the experience of parenthood is described in a fairly conventional way, very young parents will recognize themselves in crossing the small stages which mark the first months of a child's life. The text also seems to be addressed mainly to parents, adopting their point of view, rather than to the young child.
However, thanks to its original accordion book format to unfold, Now three is a beautiful object that will intrigue little ones who will enjoy handling it and recognizing elements of their daily life in the felt-tip illustrations: bath ducks, a cat, a baby bottle…
A little book to give to new parents in the first few weeks or months – to echo the emotions they feel as they build the foundations of their new family together.
