“One more bad blow for independent publishing”

From July 1, 2025, the and Brochures rate offered by La Poste will be eliminated. The latter allowed publishers to send works internationally, at a reduced cost, in order to promote the influence of French culture.

« For years, one of the demands common to all of publishing, consistently supported by independent publishers, is the establishment of a preferential rate for sending books. La Poste has never wanted to comply with this request, even though it negotiates preferential rates for the platforms.

In this price war, however, there was a special offer, the price for books and brochures dedicated according to the very terms of the postal services to serve to promote French culture with a solution for sending books and brochures abroad.

READ – Complaint about the package of books: “It doesn’t say La Poste here!

Remains of a time when La Poste was a public service serving citizens and sometimes promoting a cultural policy. The post office has just announced the end of this rate from July 1, 2025.

It is certainly another bad blow for independent publishing, because of additional costs, but it is also a bad sign for the French language, an additional boost to editorial concentration and a hindrance in the wheels of the plurality of thinking.

The French political world acts in the light of its own wanderings, having nothing more to say to the world, it perhaps thinks that this is the case for everyone.

Do not eliminate the price for books and brochures, we have not given up the idea of a universal dialogue. »
