Our children and adolescents have many opportunities because French creation is truly abundant. Illustration techniques are constantly being renewed, everyone can find what they are looking for and make surprising discoveries.
announces Delphine Pointeau, director of the Children's Book Fair, which opens its doors in Fougères from today until Sunday, for its 40e edition. The Salon is also one of the annual highlights for French youth creation, with that of Montreuil (93) which takes place every year in December.
This year, 32 authors and illustrators will be present for four days at the Show. Among them, we find Elena Selena who for five years has been creating pop-up books for Gallimard Jeunesse editions. Poetic books that children always open with little cries of wonder
laughs the director. Other authors reveal very different styles. This is the case of the novel We will go through storms by the author Anne-Laure Bondoux, who describes the trajectory of a French family, through several generations, prey to the vagaries of life and History. Finally, the dad of the series JeffersonJean-Claude Mourlevat, will also be present at the Show. All these creators were selected by librarians and booksellers, teachers from Fougères Agglomération and the Salon team
explains Delphine Pointeau.
Meetings, signings and creative workshops
Our goal is to democratize reading. We know that when we meet the people behind the stories, those who bring the characters to life, it's less scary!
explains the latter, revealing the initial project of the Salon founded by Marc Baron, a poet based in Fougères, always present at the Salon, and who also intervened as a cultural mediator.
In addition to discovery times around books and authors, the Salon organizes other highlights, including 11 workshop meetings which will take place in the media libraries. These creative workshops (cut-out and collage, paintings, animal self-portrait, creation of a fresco, etc.) will be led by illustrators, who will use the practice to demonstrate their own creative process. Finally, four readings or shows will be offered. Two authors accompanied by musicians will read their texts aloud and two show sessions will be offered
adds the director. The atmosphere of the Salon is far from hushed, there is a lot of life in the Espace Aumailrie which we have configured especially for the occasion. The little ones can lie down with a book, the older ones can enjoy a pastry or have a drink or discover the five exhibitions on offer, one of which allows you to discover the 40 posters which have punctuated the life of the show for 40 years
concludes the director. This year, nearly 6,000 visitors are expected.
