On Saturday November 9, 2024, the autobiography of Jordan Bardella entitled “What I’m looking for” is arriving in stores but it will not be available everywhere.
HAS Bordeauxthe independent bookstore “Les 400 coups”, located near the Palais de Justice, has decided not to include the book by the president of the National Rally on its shelves.
“It doesn’t correspond to my ideas”
Isabelle Arnould, store manager, explains her choice: “I don’t want to highlight it because the book doesn’t does not match to my ideas.”
The owner of the place for 4 years chooses and reserves all the brochures on sale in her bookstore. “I sell the books that I want to share with my customers because I find them interesting.” In total, more than 4 200 livres are on display in the store.
In 2021, she also chose to do without the work ofEric Zemmour, published a few months before the presidential elections.
Orders are possible
By not marketing the book, Isabelle Arnould can potentially do without many sales but theeconomic interest doesn't interest him.
All the same, the bookstore manager is not categorical. If a person wants to purchase Jordan Bardella's book, they will be able to place an order for the customer. “I do not want to infringe on everyone’s freedom because we are free to read the work we want.”
On the side of the National Rally, we speak of “censorship” when referring to the refusal of an advertising campaign for the book by the SNCF. Will this word also be used towards booksellers ?
In Franceother stores such as in Lyon, Niort or Poitiers have already expressed their choice not to sell the work of the far-right politician.
