Turkeys, mushrooms, antiques, old books… Five ideas for outings for this weekend in the Dordogne

CEvery November 11, Varaignes, in Périgord Vert, receives thousands of visitors for its Turkey Fair. The well-established recipe will be used again this Monday, with numerous producer stands, craft activities, fairground attractions all day long and some highlights: from 9 a.m., the turkey parade with the magic potion; at 10 a.m., the commemoration of the Armistice of 1918; at 12 p.m., the inductions and at 4 p.m., the picturesque gurgling competition. If the folk meal is full, you can eat on site, without booking, in particular by tasting boudindon, made from the famous poultry of course… Free entry.

2 History and old books in

The 23rd edition of the Bergerac Old Book Fair will be held this Sunday, November 10, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., under the umbrella of Picquecailloux. We will be able to discover 38 professional exhibitors and around fifteen regional authors including the historian Patrice Rolli, specialist in the Occupation in Dordogne. The organizing association, Les Collectionneurs Bergeracois has prepared an exhibition on this period. Also worth discovering is the bookbinding workshop, which will explain how to bring old books back to life. Entrance: 2 euros for those over 16.

3 Superstar mushrooms in Chancelade

The first edition, in 2022, attracted a lot of people. Logical, in a department where simple rumors of the growth of porcini mushrooms panic the minds… The second Chancelade Mushroom Show, launched yesterday, continues this Saturday November 9 and Sunday November 10, mainly in the cultural space, from 10 a.m. . Several highlights: the tasting of omelettes with porcini mushrooms (both days from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), the educational outing in the forest with Daniel Lacombe, member of the Mycological and Botanical Society of Périgord (Sunday at 9 a.m.) and the conference of Guillaume Lopez (Sunday at 3 p.m.), young Instagram star Perigord mycologist who has just published a book, “The little-known and discreet genius of mushrooms: They shape life on earth”. 4 The Overlook festival for one evening in Lembras
