Thursday November 14 at 6 p.m., the Oxymore bookstore welcomes Irène Solà̀, writer, poet and artist born in 1990 in Catalonia. This is an event given the success of his writings, including his novel I sing and the mountain dances, which won four literary prizes, including the European Union Literature Prize in 2020, and which has been translated into 27 languages. In 2024, his latest novel I gave you eyes and you looked into the darkness received the Finestres Prize for Literature in Catalan. The story of this captivating novel: in a farmhouse in the Catalan mountains, women prepare a feast for the one who will soon join them on the side of the dead. We trace the thread of their lives, all marked by the matriarch's pact with the demon at the end of the 16th century. Hidden between cliffs, in a remote place in Catalonia frequented by wolf hunters, ambushers, witches, bandits, ghosts, rally drivers and demons, the Clavell farmhouse clings to the ground like a tick. In this very old house, a single day can contain centuries of memories.

With her musical and humorous prose, Irène Solà explores the intrinsic link between light and darkness, life and death, memory and forgetting. A lively and funny novel, populated with legends and deeply poetic.
