Batman City of Madness

4

A child arrives at a bus station, he is alone and asks for a ticket to Gotham. It is not without surprising the person at the counter but the child seems determined to face the city of a thousand crimes alone. Revenge seems to be at the origin of his determination. We change location to go to Alfred’s side. The author takes us into his thoughts and they are very dark, he is worried not only for Bruce’s physical integrity but also for his mental health. Let’s follow in the footsteps of Batman who throws himself headlong into a battle against Double Face’s henchmen. This one left so many clues behind that it’s suspicious. And for good reason, it is Harvey who is in control of his body and he attracted Batman to ask him for help. He says that something terrible is going to happen in Gotham and that a third personality is inhabiting his flesh…

I was excited by this reading. At the forefront of satisfactions: the line. The drawings are magnificent and the coloring is breathtaking! Concerning the scenario, we are depicted as a dark Gotham and supported by an equally fascinating underground world. I liked the construction of the story around these different angles of view, centered on different people. There is also fan service with a plethora of references to the world of Batman. I loved seeing the courtyard of owls still in action. The fantastic aspect can be taken at face value but I see it as a way of depicting the dark side of each of the protagonists, Bruce included. The author thus strives to delve into each other’s thoughts and that’s really where we stay glued to the pages. It’s a dark and somewhat disillusioned vision of this whole universe, between good and evil, between trauma and hope.
