The French writer was rewarded for her sixth book this Wednesday, November 6.
The winner of the Médicis Prize, the fourth literary award this week after the Goncourt, the Renaudot and the Femina, has just been announced this Wednesday, November 6. The seven jurors rewarded Julia Deck for Ann of England (Threshold), his sixth book. The French author retraces the life of her mother, Ann, and combines two temporalities. On one side, the present and her mother’s stroke, on the other, the past of this British woman, leaving to live in France where she joins her sister, Betty.
“I am very moved to have this prize”declared the winner at the La Méditerranée restaurant in Paris. She won with five votes to Thomas Clerc’s four for Paris, Museum of the 21st century (Midnight) by Thomas Clerc in the third round.
Nine works appeared in the latest selection, including the jaguar’s dream (Rivages) by Miguel Bonnefoy, Femina 2024 prize and Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française or even Emmanuelle Lambert with No respect (Stock). Julia Deck succeeds Quebec author Kevin Lambert, awarded in 2023 for May our joy remain (The New Attila).
Founded in 1958 by Gala Barbisan and Jean-Pierre Giraudoux, the Médicis Prize aims to reward a novel, a story and a collection of short stories by a little-known or new writer.
