Return to the conference “Behind the scenes of the construction of the book on the history of Genas”

Monday, November 4, the Neutrino Theater hosted a conference around the development of the future book retracing the history of Genas, from Antiquity to the present day. A publication which is part of the Territorial Social and Educational Project II (Psét II), and which will promote the heritage of the municipality.

Led by Édouard Lynch, doctor in history and professor at Lumière II University, the conference brought together an audience curious to discover behind the scenes of this project. Recognized specialist and author of numerous works such as “We, peasants: A modern epic”Édouard Lynch shared the issues, methods and challenges linked to the creation of such a work.

The presentation highlighted the complexity of historical writing, particularly the search for sources. If the contemporary period is well documented thanks to administrative archives and oral testimonies, the older centuries pose more problems due to the rarity and dispersion of documents. Mr. Lynch highlighted the importance of municipal and departmental archives, particularly those located between the Rhône and Isère, and the impact of their conservation on the quality of historical analysis. He concluded his presentation with the specificities of the territory of Genas, its border position and the singularities of the entities of Genas and Azieu.

This conference marks a further step towards the publication of the work, which will also be supplemented by the production of a documentary film.
