In her novel, the author interweaves her biography and that of the American writer Gertrude Stein.

The first chapter of The past is my favorite season is titled “A book is a book is a book” which are also the last words of the book. This is because the last words of each chapter form the title of the next and it would have been unfair for the first chapter to deviate from this circular rule. «A book is a book is a book» refers to «A rose is a rose is a rose»his mother “having thrown” this sentence, “out of arguments”to the child narrator, then specifying that it was the title of“a poem by Gertrude Stein, a great, unmissable writer”. The child narrator did not understand everything: “What could that possibly mean?” This is the title of the second chapter (they are brief). What that means today is that Julia Kerninon, born in 1987, interweaves her biography and that of the American writer born in 1874 and died in 1946 after having been a privileged witness and actress in the Parisian adventures of the “lost generation”also close to Picasso and Matisse.
