The Algerian authorities did not stop at withdrawals and bans, but went so far as to question those responsible for the Frantz Fanon publishing house, which published the book in Algeria, as well as that of managers of various bookstores.
A few days earlier, Islamist MP Zouheir Fares had published an open letter in which he called on the authorities to take action against the book, denouncing a form of “cultural normalization with the Zionists”. He also claimed to send a formal request to the Ministry of Culture.
