Between the gentleness of Angers and the great cold of Quebec, there is not much in common, you say, and yet…
Angers is one of the 9 cities chosen by representatives of La Belle Province to promote its assets and bring workers to the site.
“We see that when we approach the theme of coming to settle in Quebec, working in Quebec, studying in Quebec, people in the west are always very interested in this subject.” explains Francis Gagnon, advisor to the general delegation of Quebec in Paris.
“We already have in our three western cities, Rennes, Nantes and Angers, more than 1,300 people who have registered for our information sessions” he adds.
This Wednesday, October 30, 2024, two information sessions were organized in Angers to present the job market, professional opportunities, the sectors recruiting and the profiles sought.
Among the candidates for exile, Sarah who works as a nurse.
“To see the other dimensions of my job, to be a nurse abroad” explains Sarah.
“It’s true that a nurse is in high demand. We have many colleagues who return to France, who have a career abroad in Canada” adds the candidate.
Are there any differences between the profession of nurse on site in France, we ask?
Affirmative answer.
“In terms of workload, in terms of the number of patients allocated, in terms of nurses, and in terms of care too” assure Sarah.
“Is I know that a basic nurse is a little more, with diagnosis, which is something we don't do in France. It’s also an evolution of the profession which is more realistic in Canada.” adds the nurse.
It allows us to see everything that there is next to the profession, the procedures. I am leaving with a child and my partner. Knowing that my partner can also work there and that there are several ways for the children is reassuring.
Sarahnurse and candidate for expatriation to Quebec
Organized in France since 2008, this type of “Choose Quebec” information sessions primarily responds to a need in the local labor market.
In this province of Canada located in the northeast of the United States, the population is declining and retirements are increasing.
It is estimated that 1.4 million jobs will need to be filled by 2030.
The authorities anticipate a labor shortage, particularly in sectors such as construction or education, but also in the fields of health or education.
“We have a lot of workers starting their retirement, but not enough young workers entering the job market” confirms Francis Gagnon.
“UPart of the solution lies in immigration. LEmployers are sometimes looking for very specialized profiles that they cannot necessarily find on the local market in Quebec” he adds.
“Quebec companies place a lot of emphasis on experience, skills ” specifies Francis Gagnon.
The profiles are not only for young French people, for example. There may be some for people who want to retrain, who want to change jobs along the way, or even come and live a Quebec experience with their family, even if they are 40 years old, sometimes 50 years old.

Alexandra, for her part, is precisely concerned. This young entrepreneur is in her thirties and is considering expatriation with her partner.
“We have a company in the construction industry and we are planning to change professional experience abroad” she explains.
“It would have been the United States first“admits the young woman,”but the possibility of living in the United States is complicated, it’s still very expensive too“.
We already have friends who have been living in Canada for 5 years, so we have a little bit of their life experience. We have already been there several times, we have met them, they talk to us about it all the time. It made us want
