29th Bangkok Book Fair 2024: a record success!

The 29th Bangkok Book Fair 2024 was a huge success, attracting a record number of visitors and marking a revival of interest in reading following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), the event brought together more than 1.4 million participants, generating an impressive turnover of 438 million baht.

According to Suvich Rungwatthanapaiboon, president of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (Pubat), this success is attributed to a catchy theme, “Read to the Beyond”, as well as a strong enthusiasm among young people, widely supported by social networks.

Co-organized by the Department of Cultural Promotion and the Thai Creative Culture Agency, the fair reached a record attendance of 236,686 visitors on October 19. Notably, 69% of participants were between 12 and 35 years old, demonstrating a renewed interest in reading among younger generations.

Comic were particularly popular, accounting for 40% of sales, followed by novels (30%) and psychology and self-help books (20%). School textbooks, children's books, as well as books on investment and health have also been very successful.

Several promotional campaigns have contributed to this enthusiasm, encouraging each visitor to spend an average of 600 baht on books. Many of them even came back to make more purchases.

The success of the Bangkok Book Fair 2024 is a promising sign for the future of Thailand's book industry, estimated at 16 billion baht. The event also helped to strengthen the reading habit among Thais, who now spend an average of 113 minutes a day reading.
