CP students from La Clé des Champs school and residents of the Saint-Jean d’Aubusson nursing home (Creuse) wrote, jointly, a work entitled Les Fugueurs de la Cité.

“The Tapestry City was our common thread for five months. It was there that we wrote a collection of fables which we have since had published,” explains Sylvie Bieilli, school teacher at La Clé des Champs in Aubusson (Creuse).

The CP students worked with residents of the Saint-Jean nursing home to write and illustrate Les Fugueurs de la Cité, a work that they presented together at the Cité de la Tapisserie, in the presence of Sylvie Bieilli but also by Caroline Lecointre, facilitator at the Ehpad. A moving moment since it was the first time that the children and elders met after having worked remotely in their two respective establishments for months.

A story with many hands

“We have constructed a multi-handed story based on the bestiary of the City’s tapestries. Thus, eight teams were formed, involving eight volunteer residents and 19 students. Everyone chose an animal. We decided that there would be eight fables, each fable being divided into six episodes, the odd episodes being written by the residents and the even ones by the students, of course taking into account what has been written previously,” explains Sylvie. Bieilli.

Former student turned teacher, Valérie Jouandeau is preparing for the 50th anniversary of her Aubusson school (May 2023)

The work spanned five months of writing, bringing to life animals from “The Lady with the Unicorn” (of course not exhibited at Aubusson) and tapestries by Dom Robert and René Perrot. The fox, the owl, the tiger, the rabbit and other animals were bored in the City. So, they decided to go and visit the surrounding area, starting with rue Saint-Jean.

A joint visit

During the meeting at the City, led by guide Alexia Fowke, students and residents visited the Nave of Hangings, in order to extend and strengthen the link established between generations and to exchange ideas. Children happily pushed the wheelchairs.

Today, the book Les Fugueurs de la Cité just needs to be lived outside of school and nursing homes where anyone can get it. Find out more from the school and the Aubusson CH.
