The Children’s Book and Press Fair celebrates its 40th anniversary

For his 40the edition from November 27 to December 2, the Youth Book and Press Fair in Seine-Saint-Denis (SLPJ) is thinking big and organizing numerous meetings and events around the theme of dreams. According to a press release, ” Dreams stimulate, stage emotions, draw the unpublished, express the unspeakable. With literature, it becomes a space of freedom, creativity, projections. And this is the whole project of this Salon which for 40 years has generously sown seeds of dreams in children “.

At the initiative of the Seine-Saint-Denis Departmental Council, the “40×40” artistic project mobilizes 40 illustrators around the powers of reading. This exhibition will be set up permanently in 40 early childhood locations in the department and will be present during the outdoor show.

At the same time, another installation will be dedicated to the award-winning titles of recent years with an approach of sensory experimentation of the works. The Salon also plans to publish a special magazine that traces its history, that of publishing and creation.

Free access for all

To celebrate the anniversary of the event, the Salon will be completely free of charge for the first time. The event also focuses on accessibility with sign language readings, audio description, selections of adapted books and a list of specialist publishers to facilitate the visit.

Meetings will be organized with the major networks of the book chain at the interprofessional and international forum. On the occasion of the Lithuanian Season in , the fair and the association “Centre for School Improvement” will present the project “Nos légendes, gestes croisés” which supports comic strip artists with the participation of Actes Sud BD.

Finally, a hub dedicated to media education will bring together the All-Terrain Radio, the Salon and the Youth Press Kiosk.

In addition to the SLPJ between November 27 and December 2, other highlights will take place during the year, such as the announcement of the 2024 Grande Ourse Prize on November 7, or that of the winners of the Pépites and the Pépite d’Or 2024 on November 27.
