The deployed program is divided into five highlights which will follow one after the other until April 2025.
From April to May 2024, a first chapter entitled “The Spring of the Great Reading” will open the festivities with the “Rencontres de l’Illustration” and the inauguration of major exhibitions at the city’s Museums from April 24, the “Rencontres de l’Illustration” Festival of independent bookstores” on the 25th, and the “Grande Lecture” on the 26th and 27th. They will conclude with an opening day for the media libraries, on Sunday April 28, which will offer reading times, creative workshops, shows and concerts for all ages and for all tastes. As for the official opening, which will take place on April 23 in various places in the city, it will invite all the partners of the program as well as national actors of the book chain, political figures as well as authors. They will be present at the Cité de la Musique et de la Danse from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The same day, a giant bookcrossing (large book sharing) will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Place de la République. Finally, the inauguration will take place from 6:30 p.m. on Place du Château in the presence of numerous personalities from the literary and cultural worlds, followed at 8 p.m. by a musical reading by the singer Souad Massi at the cathedral.
Let’s go to the World Book Capital!
The year will continue with four other chapters: from June to August “Reading our world summer”, from September to October “The literary and cultural return to school”, from November to December “Strasbourg, capital of Christmas indulges”, then from January to April 2025 “The last pages are being written”.
