Descriptive text here

On Monday April 22 at noon, Dorothée Perkins and Perrine Bulgheroni will be at the Grandes tables of La Criée, in , to present their book, Faith, the pitchfork and the pitchfork (€35, Editions Hachette Pratique) which returns, via a collection of recipes, to the history of the Orthodox monastery of Solan, in eastern .

Founded in 1991 on the foundations of an old wine estate, the Solan monastery has developed an original experience of organic food farming, on twenty hectares of agricultural land and forty hectares of forest.

The work of the nuns to earn their living is not a secular activity which would take place alongside the sacred activity of prayer, explains the monastery on its website. This work is not only sanctified because the sisters try to pray as they do it. It is the whole coherence of their life which is expressed in the way of nourishing themselves, of approaching the land, of cultivating it, respecting its nature, its rhythms, its purpose.

For their book Faith, pitchfork and pitchfork, Perrine Bulgheroni, co-founder of the Bec Hellouin farm in , one of the most successful French experiments in permaculture, and Dorothée Perkins, photographer and permaculture specialist, went to meet the nuns and their unique experience.

Their bias to talk about it to as many people as possible? The recipes of the monastery, collected and formatted at length. Predominantly vegetarian community, reflecting on the principles of Lenten preparation eating, “the sisters cook a lot and it’s really good, confides Dorothée Perkins. They take very particular care with meal times and food, they eat what they produce in their garden, their wine is delicious.“.

The meeting with the two authors, hosted by Provencewill be followed by a lunch prepared with products from the monastery (upon prior registration).
