“They must stop complaining,” Kombouaré warns Ligue 1 presidents

Asked at a press conference about the re-election of Vincent Labrune as president of the Professional Football League (LFP), Antoine Kombouaré felt that the club presidents had “certainly made the right choice”. But the FC Nantes coach also felt that this decision forced them to face up to their responsibilities.

“It’s the presidents’ choice, so we respect it. The presidents have decided to trust Vincent Labrune again. They are better placed than me and you to know what this boy will bring to French football. On the other hand, they must stop complaining. We must stop crying about the fact that we no longer have money today and that the clubs are in difficulty,” said Antoine Kombouaré on Wednesday, September 11. “Now, it’s up to him to work with the presidents so that we can get French football back on track,” he added.

“He was elected hands down, there is no discussion.”

Antoine Kombouaré also stressed that Vincent Labrune had been largely re-elected, with 14 votes against two (plus one blank vote), despite the highly publicized campaign of competitor Cyril Linette: “He was elected hands down, there is not even any discussion.”

Despite the fiasco over the Ligue 1 TV rights sold for 500 million euros to DAZN and beIN Sports when a billion euros was hoped for, doubts about the agreement with the CVC investment fund, criticism of the LFP’s lifestyle, Vincent Labrune was the big favorite. The former president of Olympique de Marseille could count on massive support from representatives of Ligue 1 clubs. Waldemar Kita, president of FC Nantes, was one of them, although he withdrew his candidacy to join the board of directors of the League, the decision-making body in this election.
