The Paralympic Games took place in the City of Lights from August 28 to September 8. While France finished in eighth place with 75 medals (19 gold, 28 silver and 28 bronze), the opening ceremony was spectacular. Théo Curin celebrated the opening by arriving in a car entirely decorated with phryges and announced the start of the Games. It should be remembered that the young man had to have all four limbs amputated following meningitis at the age of 6. He won several medals, including silver at the European Championships and the World Paralympic Swimming Championships, and represented France at the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016 at just 16 years old.

“We talked about the London Paralympic Games for a long time, it was an example for countries and others because there was a real breakthrough, we really put the Paralympic athletes forward, we saw them everywhere in the metro stations, in the streets, the stadiums were full. In Rio, there was not the same enthusiasm, in Tokyo, because of the conditions we know (Covid, ndlr)it wasn’t easy and Paris was a real challenge for us, because it’s true that I took part in a lot of national competitions in France, there was no one in the stands, so it’s true that I was very afraid that these Paralympic Games would go pshit. When I entered this Place de la Concorde (during the opening ceremony, editor’s note) and I go up the stairs and I see this Place de la Concorde completely full. I say to myself ‘it’s good, it’s going to work’.” he remembered.
