Already changes in Ligue 2. The League and beIN Sports, the championship broadcaster, are making changes to the programming, which is highly contested by fans, of the L2 matchdays. From now on, there will no longer be seven but six matches broadcast during the multiplex on Friday evenings during each championship matchday. The LFP announced on Thursday that a match will be scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. That’s not all. Following a meeting with beIN Sport and the National Supporters Association (ANS), the League announced other changes that are supposed to go in the fans’ favor.

Fewer games on Monday nights

“Due to international periods or days scheduled during the week, the schedule provides that no matches will be scheduled on Monday during eight days out of the 32 days on the weekend, indicates the LFP press release. These eight matches will be rescheduled on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. As a result, three matches will be broadcast on Saturday during these eight days.” Another step towards the fans who, another change, will be notified of the schedule six weeks and not four before the matches in order to better prepare for these meetings, in particular the travel. Finally, the Saturday match at 2:30 p.m. is brought forward to 2:00 p.m. to accommodate the very football-focused programming of beIN Sports on Saturday afternoons.

“Very insufficient” proposals for the ANS

Let us recall that anger has been brewing among fans in Ligue 2 since the restart. The supporters are demanding that matches be held on weekends and not on Friday evenings. beIN Sports, the broadcaster of the championship, has therefore agreed to take a step towards them by scheduling one of its matches on Saturday evenings. But despite these announcements, the ANS was still not satisfied after the meeting: “We are obliged to admit that these proposals, however welcome and constructive they may be, are very insufficient. We naturally understand the constraints of the broadcasters and the LFP, whether in the reconciliation of the broadcasting of Ligue 2 with that of other competing sports competitions and whatever”, estimates the National Association of Supporters in a press release.
