A house collapsed in a town in the Rhône just over a month after it was purchased. The collapse caused no injuries. The owner wanted to move in this summer: the house will have to be razed.

A real nightmare. A house, acquired by new owners on December 9, 2024, collapsed on January 6, 2025 during rehabilitation work. The events took place in the town of L'Arbresle in the Rhône.

She is a 51-year-old hairdresser who had just purchased the house. She had called on workers for work and planned to move in during the summer. The house leaves a few walls still standing and a pile of beams and rubble.

Shortly before the collapse, four workers were on site replacing a floor. The mason sensed danger coming. He would have “seen the smoking stone”, the owner tells the daily Progress. The four workers quickly left just before everything collapsed. There were no injuries.

The central load-bearing wall gave way, taking away the entire house. The origin of this collapse has not yet been determined. Faced with this pile of stones, rubble and beams, the town hall issued an imminent danger order.

Despite the state of her property, the owner is not giving up. “I still hope to live there one day soon.”
