Jean-Pierre HUNCKLER: “Above all, I would like to thank all the voters who took part in this Elective General Assembly, as well as all those who trusted me by electing me to this position.
The new law on sport and the governance of Federations has profoundly modified the organization of General Assemblies and strengthened the democratic functioning of our bodies. With the direct vote of sports associations and the elections of members representing the colleges of referees, coaches and high-level athletes, all the components of the great French Basketball family were able to make their voices heard. It is therefore an immense honor to become today the new President of the FFBB thanks to their votes and to begin a four-year mandate during which I will rely on a new elected Steering Committee.
I succeed Jean-Pierre Siutat whom I wish to congratulate for the immense work accomplished during his three mandates. He was able to develop the Federation, strengthen its expertise, its image and give a strong boost to French basketball. I had the chance to accompany him for many years and see to what extent he devoted all his energy to the FFBB and basketball. May he be greatly thanked.
Thanks to his action started in 2010, he leaves behind a bigger and stronger Federation. It is now up to us to continue the work while proposing a clear and ambitious project.
My action plan will be broken down into five areas that I will share in the coming weeks and months with our leagues, committees and clubs. It is structured around a clear vision for our sport: facilitating access to basketball and spreading it to all sectors of society on the one hand, consolidating our results at the highest level by reaching first place on the podium on the other hand.
To achieve this, I want to build on the strengths of the Federation and get closer to our base (clubs and committees). Our growth passes and will pass through them and it will therefore be necessary to remove the obstacles to development that they encounter. While the results of our French teams and our clubs make basketball shine during international competitions and the attractiveness of our sport is confirmed day after day with more and more players joining us, I wish to unite in this positive momentum all the players in our sport: from the pros, through the National Basketball League, to the amateurs, to the public actors that are the communities, to the private sector with the companies and our partners. A spirit of openness which must also guide us in the links that I intend to maintain with the International Federation.”
