The decree specifies that only political parties, the coalitions of political parties, and the independent candidates, whose applications were validated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), are authorized to campaign.
According to information relayed by Anadolu, the CENI has unveiled a list of potential participants for the double voting of June 5, 2025. This list includes 21 political parties, a coalition made up of four parties, and 10 independent candidates.
-The legislative and municipal elections are scheduled for June 5, 2025. These polls will be followed by the senatorial elections scheduled for July 23, 2025, and the election of the collinary councilors and districts organized on August 25, 2025. The country is also preparing for a presidential election in 2027.
The current context of fuel shortage in Burundi could disrupt the trips of political actors during the campaign, a point of concern underlined by observers.
The last elections, held on May 20, 2020, saw an overwhelming victory for the CNDD-FDD party. At the time, 13 political parties, 2 coalitions, and 18 independent candidates were in the running.
