As an alternative to Skype, Microsoft offers the team app. The group recommends downloading the team app and ideally already registered with their Skype account before May 5th. All chats and contacts should then be called up via teams. The telephone function available in Skype with its own telephone number, with which mobile phone and landline number could also be called, is no longer available in teams.
Skype at the end with 30 million users
The app developed by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis in 2003 can be seen as a pioneer of modern messaging solutions. Even then it was possible to lead free language and video calls over the Internet. The service was particularly popular for international communication, since Skype did not cause high telephone costs.
After a few changes of ownership, Microsoft Skype took over for $ 8.5 billion in 2011 and integrated the software into Windows. In 2017, the Redmonders with teams announced a new communication software, the development of which was continuously promoted, while the focus was on Skype and has now come to an end.
In its best times, Skype had several 100 million users worldwide per month. Most recently, according to Similar Web, the communication software still had 30 million users.
