Harvard’s resistance in the face of the threats of the Trump administration has a face and a name. Graying beard, small glasses circled in metal, Alan Garber, a former graduate of the prestigious university near Boston, is now opposed to government interference after taking the lead in crisis in 2024.

Specialist in health policies, Alan Graber spent twenty-five years in Stanford, which he also graduated, before returning to Harvard. In addition to his teacher-researcher cap, he became “provost”, a sort of right arm of the presidency, in 2011. In 2024, the fall of the ex-president of Harvard Claudine Gay, accused of plagiarism and complacency vis-à-vis anti-Semitism on the campus, propels him to the head of the university.

First appointed to the interim presidency, Graber tries to pacify the campus after the anti-Israeli demonstrations, establishing a policy of neutrality when tradition wanted Harvard to take political positions, and confirms the end of positive discrimination to comply with the decision
