The initial amount of the sanction was deemed excessive. The Council of State reduced Tuesday by 300,000 to 150,000 euros on Tuesday a fine imposed by the audiovisual regulator on the channel today disappeared C8, for a program where host Cyril Hanouna had attacked the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo.
“The amount of 300,000 euros in the sanction imposed on C8 Company (by Arcom in May 2023, editor’s note) must be regarded as excessive,” said the highest administrative court in its decision.
The Council of State, which had been seized by C8, brought the fine to 150,000 euros, “having regard to the severity of the shortcomings in question and all of their characteristics”.
Millions of euros in total
The stated remarks had been made in an issue of the Touche pas à mon poste (TPMP) of October 5, 2022. The mayor of Paris, who did not participate, had been invited by Cyril Hanouna in particular to “close his mouth” and to “chase the rats at night instead of saying bullshit”.
-C8, channel of the Canal + group in the giron of the conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, ceased to issue in March after the non-renewal of its frequency by the Arcom.
His eviction of TNT (digital terrestrial television) was largely motivated by the “repeated breaches” of the channel, which has accumulated 7.6 million euros fine because of the slippages of his show Cyril Hanouna.
The latter will join the M 6 group in September, for two shows on Fun Radio and on the W9 channel.
