Guest of the France 5 show this Monday, May 5, Natalie Portman, deviated from the promotion of Guy Ritchie’s film, Fountain of Youthto share his deep attachment to French culture and especially to his cinema.
Based in Paris since 2023, Natalie Portman spoke of the films that have shaped her learning of the French language. Among them, those of Jean-Pierre Jeunet with Delicatessen (1991) or The city of lost children (1995), but also Cons dinner, Francis Veber’s theater play created in 1993 and adapted to the cinema in 1998. “It’s true, I watched these films in my French lessons in high school, it was great. I remember that you had to play dialogues for exercises, ”she says with a smile.
Carried by the enthusiasm of the host Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, the actress even embarked on a reinterpretation of a cult scene from the film by Francis Veber. She then imitates Jacques Villeret in the famous sequence where François Pignon just calls Leblanc, posing as a Belgian producer. “I am a Belgian producer,” she says, causing laughter and applause on the set. “But you do it incredibly!” Exclaims the host of C to you.
An American in Paris
Beyond her imitation talents, Natalie Portman took advantage of it to twist the neck for some received ideas on Parisians. “We know that we are Parisian when we start to do pfffffff”, she jokes, before defending them: “I find that the Parisians are very nice. Other people outside of Paris think they are not, but I do not agree (…) Maybe they are just extremely nice to me, “she laughs. Mother of two children, Aleph (13) and Amalia (7), born from her union with the dancer Benjamin Millepied, Natalie Portman seems to have adopted the capital and obviously, it is reciprocal.
