According to the Turkish daily Sabah, the Turkish intelligence services (MIT) intercepted in Istanbul an important batch of 1,300 biper for Lebanon, just a few days before the operation which struck Hezbollah on September 17, 2024. This seizure is part of the context of the spectacular explosions having left at least 12 dead and nearly 2,800 injured during the operation allocated to Mossad Israeli. According to information published, the cargo from Taiwan arrived in Istanbul on September 16, the day before explosions in Lebanon. The cargo manifesto mentioned “food aexes”, but the inspection revealed 61 boxes containing bipers similar to those used during the attack.
The Turkish authorities claim that these devices contained “a very flammable white explosive weighing three grams” hidden in the batteries. President Erdogan himself informed the former Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati of this discovery last December. This interception comes as the explosions of September 17, followed the next day by those of Talkies-Walkies, constituted one of the largest security breaches ever suffered by Hezbollah. The operation deeply marked Lebanon, causing serious injuries to the eyes and hands of many victims, including civilians.
Hezbollah, which favored these devices to avoid Israeli interceptions, was directly targeted by this sophisticated device. According to international surveys, the bipeurs were changed before their delivery, equipped with explosives that can be triggered remotely.
