King Philippe visits the famous Baroque library of the Strahov monastery in Prague

King Philippe of makes an official two - visit to the Czech Republic. The head of state was received by the Czech head of state in Prague this May 5. The King of the Belgians and the Czech president notably visited the Strahov monastery together, including the famous Baroque .

King Philippe visits the splendid library of Strahov’s monastery

King Philippe of Belgium, 65, went to Czech Republic on May 5, 2025 as part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. In May 1945, Belgian soldiers fought to release part of Bohemia, in the Pilsen region. King Philippe will devote his Tuesday day to these commemorations. When he arrived in Prague, this Monday, May 5, 2025, the King of the Belgians was welcomed by President Petr Pavel.

President Petr Pavel welcomed King Philippe at the Prague castle. The two heads of state held a bilateral meeting, King Philippe signed the Château Honor Book and the Czech President awarded the of the White Lion Order to the Belgian Sovereign. After the reception ceremony, President Pavel took his guest visiting the Strahov monastery.

The Strahov monastery was founded in 1140 by Vladislav II to shelter a congregation of canons of the order of the pre -assembled. The remains of Norbert de Xanten, founder of this order, rests in the monastery church. The Gothic monastery was partly ravaged by in the 13th century. In the 18th century, the monastery was largely rebuilt in the Baroque style.

The theological room and the philosophical room are the two most famous rooms of this famous library. The splendid stucco decorations of the theological room of the 1720s resisted time, the various assaults, wars and looting. King Philippe was able to admire some ancestral and precious works of this library.
