Dutch Marianne’s Dutch has won the Sprint the penultimate stage of Le Vuelta, ahead of the sprint its compatriot Mischa Bredewold. Half Vollering, another Dutch, retains the red jersey with 45 seconds ahead of her runner -up, before the final arrival on Saturday in the Asturias.
The Netherlands are still at the top on this 2025 female vuelta! If the American team Lidl-Trek had won the time of the first stage last Sunday, all the following stages were won by Dutch, and the red jersey was worn every day, except Tuesday, by a Dutch runner! This Friday, Marianne Vos, who will celebrate her 38th birthday next week, won the Sprint stage, winning the 257th victory of her career, the second on this edition. But it was necessary to use the photo-finish to determine who of your or his compatriot Mischa Bredewold had won. In this uphill sprint, the two Dutch women were clearly the strongest and detached themselves from competition, and it was your who had the last word, ahead of a group of 53 other runners. “I am very happy, and exhausted, to be honest. We knew collectively that it was a chance for us today, we wanted to give everything, and we did it. In the end, it was very tight, so I am happy to have been able to grasp it. There were a lot of long, straight and clear roads, with little wind, but enough to make the race difficult, especially in front of the wind, “said Vos, now the only leader of the Visma-Lease A Bike team following the abandonment of Pauline Ferrand-Prévot.
-Vollering should not crack
The Dutch holder of half a vollering, who arrived in the first peloton, retains her red jersey, with 45 seconds ahead of her compatriot Anna van der Breggen. The FDJ-Suez runner left to succeed in the double, even if it will not be cracked during the last stage, with an arrival at the top of the Cotobello alto, and its 10.5km at 8% average. On the French side, Cédrine Kerbaol occupies 4th place du Général, 1’49 in vollering and 1’03 from Marlen Reusser. It will take a small feat to climb on the final podium.
