The fire insurance establishment in the canton of Vaud (ECA) presented ten fire and rescue vehicles on Thursday. A first truck symbolically took the road at the end of April towards this country at war.
This gesture of humanitarian aid and solidarity was made to a Ukrainian delegation present at the ECA administrative headquarters in Lausanne during an official ceremony. ‘In this difficult period, we all have a role to play in supporting your fight for freedom,’ said Serge Depallens, CEO of ECA.
The Ukrainian delegation was made up, among other things, of the Ukraine ambassador to Switzerland, Irina Venediktova, and Andrei Iatsenia, director of the NGO Risk Reduction Foundation, in charge of the delivery of vehicles. The national councilor Laurent Wehrli (PLR/VD) was also present. Whoever is also president of the Swiss Federation of Firefighters (FSSP) made the link between Ukrainian needs and available resources.
The ten vehicles in question have recently been replaced by more recent models. Most of them are about twenty years old and retain real use value, said ECA in a statement. ‘They are therefore offered in a humanitarian framework’, it is specified. These are five ‘ton-pompe 6000 liters’ trucks’, two 3000-liter trucks, two all-use vehicles and a motorcycle trailer.
The shipment will be made in steps. A first convoy by semi-trailer left the week of April 28. The continuation will be organized according to the means gathered by the NGO partner to finance transport. The route passing through Germany and Poland is in fact fully managed by the Risk Reduction Foundation. The vehicles offered must reach two rescue entities in Ukraine.
