Should we believe Vladimir Putin? According to the head of the Kremlin, French people fight for Russia in Ukraine. The Russian president confirms what we already know. Indeed, many of them fight alongside the Russians. So it is difficult to estimate their number, they are certainly a handful.
One of these famous fighters is identified. His name is Serguei Munier. Born in Lugansk, Donbass, he was raised in France. This former colonel in the French army has been in eastern Ukraine since 2014, the year of the Donbass War. He is drone instructor.
Another Russian media also talks about two former career soldiers, recently arrived in Ukraine, and who would therefore be part of The “Normandy-Niémen” unit. His name is actually not unknown. “Normandie-Niémen” takes its name from a French Hunting Unit of World War. In 1942, she was sent to Russia to fight alongside the Soviet army against the advance of Nazi Germany. It was made up of volunteer French pilots.
