Naomi Osaka qualified, at the very beginning of the day, for the second round of the WTA 1000 in Rome after a success against Sara Errani.
The Japanese accumulates victories and confidence on clay after her title last week at the WTA 125 in Saint-Malo. A performance on which she returned to a press conference:
“Obviously, I would have been disappointed to lose in the first round. And people would have been if I hadn’t won the trophy. Many things could have happened. I just wanted to focus on my tennis and accumulate experience on clay.
-I don’t have an ego that prevents me from playing this type of tournament. I have always told people that it didn’t matter to me to play on the short 16 if I had to do it. I did not return to the circuit for all the time to play on the central court. I just want to have fun and see what I am able to achieve. »»
The Japanese, a quadruple winner in Grand Chelem, also mentioned her progress made on earth:
“This battered earth tour is different because I arrive with a lot of victories. I feel much more comfortable on the surface, but it is also due to the experience I acquired last season. I had played very good games on Earth last year. It stayed in a corner of my head. »»
