At just 21 years old, Alcaraz continues to impress and register his name on the list of many records, as Nadal did at his age. However, for many, Alcaraz will have to do even stronger things if he wishes to exceed his idol Rafa.
This is the case of the former Becker champion. In an interview with El Mundo, the German spoke of the difficulty for Alcaraz to be compared to the legend at 22 Grand Chelem titles:
“It is a very difficult pressure to endure because there is only one rafa and there will never be only one. That said, Carlos is leaving her brand in her own way. It is still very young and the best is to come, but it is impossible to guess how long a tennis player will stay at an elite level.
I hope Carlos will play another 10 or 15 years because, for me, it is the most exciting tennis player in the world currently, but the Spaniards, especially journalists, must be careful and not to judge him so severely each time he loses a match because he is a very different player from what Nadal was.
Carlos has more natural talent, but Nadal’s heart has never been and will never be equaled by any other athlete in history. Alcaraz is fantastic, Djokovic and Federer are legends, but Rafa had a different level of competitiveness. If, during a tournament, you knew you were going to cross Nadal, well, good luck, my friend. »»
