(Keystone-ATS) The indirect counter-project of the Federal Council on the popular initiative of women PLR aims to make individual people’s taxation individual, who pay more than cohabiting parts for the same income.

In the two chambers, a majority composed of the left, the PLR and the PVL support the project, defending tax equity between men and women. The Center and the UDC denounce an injustice for “traditional” couples to one income.

The National and the Council of States are not currently agreeing on the details of the content of the project, which will have a cost, estimated at 800 million francs of losses per year for federal tax in the government’s project.

600 million, a compromise

The National now offers a tax scale which would cost 600 million francs per year, against 500 million for that of the Council of States.

Any tax reform has an effect, defended Samuel Bendahan (PS/VD) on behalf of the Commission. If a cleaning pays less , it will cost someone else. But the proposed tax scale is a “real compromise to ”, which has a tax impact in favor of taxpayers on average, without touching too much at the Federal Fund.

The UDC and the center opposed it again. They denounced tax inequalities. The two parties also fear a huge load for the cantons, a “bureaucratic monster”.

There will be and losers, it is clear, but a majority will get better, also said in substance the president of the Confederation Karin Keller-Sutter, calling to support the compromise. In the vote, the proposal went through 101 votes against 95.

Yes at the initiative

In the process, the Chamber of the People also argued, by 98 votes to 96, the initiative of women PLR “for taxes”, which requires introducing individual taxation into the Constitution.

The left and the PLR to finally exceed the conservative models in terms of couples taxation. At the center and at the UDC, we criticized an initiative, the majority of which do not want and which also attacks the “traditional” model of couples to a single income.

The popular initiative will only be withdrawn if the counter-project of the Federal Council survives the final votes in the Parliament and a possible referendum, launched Susanne Vincenz-Stuffacher (PLR/SG).
