Valais naturalizes 25% of French nationals
More than a quarter of the new Valais citizens are French. The Portuguese, Italian and Germans follow closely.
The Grand Council ratified, on Tuesday, the naturalization of 423 foreign nationals.

The Grand Council Valaisan On Tuesday validated the naturalization of 423 foreign nationals from 39 countries. Nine Confederates are added to this list. They obtained an additional right of city, that of their home municipality. More than a quarter of naturalizations concern French nationals (114, 27%).
Citizens for the benefit of a Portuguese (79), Italian (41), German (39) and British (17) passport complete the top 5.

In addition to the United Kingdom, North Macedonia (14), Kosovo (13) and Serbia (11) are the European Union countries which have the most nationals wishing to obtain a white cross passport. The naturalization ceremony will be held on May 26 in Conthey. As is traditionally the case, a second wave of naturalizations will take place at the end of the year.
2749 naturalizations in 42 months
The number of ordinary naturalizations had reached 795 in 2022, 804 in 2023 and 727 in 2022, each time by adding the figures of the two annual meetings. In total, in three and a half years, the Grand Council has validated 2749 naturalizations.
The number of Confederates having chosen to add as a right of city their town of domicile to their place of origin was 39 in 2022, 46 in 2023 and 38 last year. With nine cases for the moment in 2025, this type of approach is therefore down this year.
