La Landsgemeinde de Glaris decided on Sunday to introduce three Sundays a year without cars by the Klöntal lake. This measure will be in force from 2026.

(Keystone-ATS) The area will be closed to motorized vehicles on the last Sunday in June, July and August. This measure will limit the overload of traffic around the lake, popular with people from other cantons.
The Glaronais also validated the replacement of the cable car which serves the Braunwald holiday station. Costs are estimated at 24 million francs.
Voters who came in number
A new law on the financing of institutions for disabled people has also been adopted. Expansions and new constructions will now be funded by prices and no longer by cantonal contributions.
The subject was debated. Several representatives of households for disabled people have spoke, pointing to a weakening of legal certainty with the new system. However, the population has decided in favor of the new law.
The Glandonais also approved a text giving the cantonal police more power in cases of domestic violence. It can now pronounce a prohibition of perimeter or contact against a violent person.
After more than four hours, the voters in number despite a gloomy weather, finally made several modifications to the municipal law. Federal Councilor Albert Rösti was present during the Landsgemeinde, which still arouses great interest in Switzerland as an expression of direct democracy.
