Mame Mbaye Niang, former minister under the administration of Macky Sall, had his public reappearance this Thursday, May 8, 2025. The ex-politician, who had left the country after the coming to power of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, published photos of him, smiling and relaxed on the social networks, on board an airplane.
Far from the judicial tumults that shake his former APR allies, Mame Mbaye Niang seems to be in a phase of tranquility and distance from the conflicts that are currently shaking the Senegalese political landscape. Since the regime change, the ex-minister has chosen exile, a departure that had aroused many speculation about the reasons for his departure from the country.
Some saw in this flight a way to evade in progress judicial investigations, in particular those linked to the management of public funds during its period in the government. Indeed, several figures of the APR, formerly close to ex-president Macky Sall, are currently faced with accusations of embezzlement and opaque management, which reinforced the idea that Mame Mbaye Niang had anticipated the future turbulence. Today, the ex-minister seems to take advantage of his exile, showing a serene attitude far from scandals.
