The president of the National Assembly, Mr. El Malick Ndiaye, received in audience, this Wednesday, May 7, the former Ethiopian Prime Minister and president of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn. This meeting is part of the preparations for the Annual African Food Systems Forum, scheduled for September 2025 in Dakar.
SEM. Dessalegn welcomed Senegal’s progress in agriculture and food sovereignty, justifying the choice of the country as a host of the forum. He invited the president of the National Assembly to participate in this event, which will highlight the role of parliamentarians in promoting food sovereignty.
In return, Mr. El Malick Ndiaye thanked his host and welcomed the organization of the forum in Senegal, stressing that this initiative is part of the vision of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye. He recalled the importance given to food sovereignty, in particular through the creation of a dedicated ministry and the increase in his budget.
The president of the National Assembly finally assured that the institution will fully play its role, in particular by the revision and modernization of the Agro-Sylvo-Pastoral Law, in order to respond to the current and future issues of food sovereignty.
