(SenePlus) – Your information portal, seneplus.com, has been the victim of an important cyber attack for a few days, an incident that took a new dimension this Monday, May 5, 2025. This digital offensive is not an isolated case, since Seneweb, another important online media in the country, was also targeted by a similar attack last February.
The attack on Seneplus, of the DDOS type (denial of distributed service), aims to make the site inaccessible by submerging it from requests from different parts of the world. The technical teams are currently working with their partners in the field of cybersecurity to maintain access to the site and strengthen our defense.
Seneweb had undergone the same type of offensive between February 17 and 27, 2025 from the United States, Russia, France and Indonesia among others, according to a media statement.
These cyber attacks intervene then that at least 381 Senegalese press bodies are threatened with closing by the new authorities for “non-compliance” in the press code. A situation that many players in the sector consider “a serious damage to press freedom”.
DDOS attacks against information sites have become frequent worldwide, affecting both local and international media. In the current political context of Senegal, these digital assaults against two of the country’s most important online media raise concern about the future of freedom of expression and the right to information.
