Matam: a caravan to contribute to the national agroecology strategy

Matam, May 5 (APS) – An agroecological caravan was launched on Monday in the Matam (North) region on Monday, with a view to contributing to expand awareness and coconstruct a national agro ecology strategy in concert with actors at the base.

This initiative, which is in its third edition, also aims to strengthen the already existing local dynamics to promote the agroecological transition, according to its promoters grouped within the dynamics for an agroecological transition in Senegal (Dytaes).

It aims to expand awareness of agroecology, co -construct a national agroecology strategy with actors at the base, said Mamadou Abdoulaye Sow, coordinator within the NGO Enda Pronat.

He intervened during the official launching ceremony of the said caravan, on the theme: “Agroecology for a sovereign, and prosperous Senegal”.

The caravan also aims to strengthen the local dynamics already existing to promote the agroecological transition, according to Mamadou Abdoulaye Sow.

It will be held from May 5 to 25 on the entire extent of the Matam region, on the initiative of the dynamics for an agroecological transition in Senegal (Dytaes) and in the presence of several players in the sector.

Dytaes also plans to map the actors acting in the agroecology sector, in order to capitalize on all agroecological initiatives in the region.

For this caravan of about twenty days, he explains, the activities will into a turn “exchanges with local actors”.

“We are going to discuss with them about agroecological issues, collect their expectations on the national agroecology strategy which will be developed with the ministry of guardianship. The decentralized approach that we have adopted illustrates well the desire to involve all actors in the agro-sylvopastoral and fishery sector that are activated at the level of the territory”, underlines Mr. Sow.

From Tuesday, the caravan will travel from the localities of the departments of Matam and Kanel to visit ongoing initiatives in villages.

A way also for dytaes to see what is done especially with , the main actresses of the promotion of agroecology in terms of agricultural initiatives and good practices, explained Mamadou Abdoulaye Sow.

Initiatives carried by people will also be visited by Dytaes, a platform created in 2019 and which has 90 member organizations.
