The Federal Court of Appeal rejects a challenge to the prohibition of firearms

(Ottawa) The Federal Court of Appeal rejected a challenge to the Liberal Government of Firearms’ Prohibition which he considers to be specific to the battlefield, and not to hunting or sports shooting.

Liberals have prohibited some 1,500 models and variants of firearms in May 2020, which means that they can no longer be legally used, sold or imported.

This decision was generally welcomed by defenders of the control of firearms, considering it as a first step towards the withdrawal of the circulation of firearms used during mass shootings.

In October 2023, a judge of the Federal Court rejected a request for cancellation of the ban.

A non -profit pressure organization, firearms owners, companies, hunters and recreational and sporting shooters have appealed.

In its decision rendered on Tuesday, the Federal Court of Appeal rejected the last challenge, claiming to have provided “exhaustive, reasoned and legally valid reasons”.
