Images as spectacular as disturbing were captured during a road trip to the Precious-Sang sector in Bécancour.

Tuesday evening, a 37 -year -old magog man lost control of his vehicle and mowed a whole row of trees before finishing his race 150 meters further.
“We heard a din. Then, looking out the window, we saw trees get caught up and a car being propelled into the air, ”says Annie Gauthier, resident of the sector and also a municipal councilor for the city of Bécancour.
His surveillance cameras captured the stage around 8:40 p.m. on the Missouri road. Important scars are always visible on his land, while several trees were shaved by the car which had been more or less transformed into a cannonball during the accident.

No doubt: the driver far exceeded the allowed speed of 50 km/h.
“If there had not been a curve here, for me, he arrived in the house,” explains Lise Rheault, pointing to the residence of her son who is at the corner of the Missouri and St-Laurent roads.
“Lucky that there was no one!” Adds the lady who has lived in this quiet sector of Bécancour for 58 years, adding that many children often play in this place.
The worst was also avoided for another vehicle that immobilized at the intersection, just a few seconds before the accident. The surveillance camera of another resident, Lysanne Bergeron, shows the faulty driver making barrels a few meters from the other car which slowly brakes on the stop on Chemin Saint-Laurent.

Alcohol in question?
The suspect is a 37 -year -old Magog man. He was arrested for driving with weakened capacity.
-“The driver being poisoned with alcohol, he was arrested, but he had injuries,” explains the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec Éloïse Cossette.
“So, at that time we take them to the hospital. He provided a blood sample. The blood test will be analyzed. And it is really this result that will give its blood alcohol level. All this with the aim of driving with weakened faculties, ”she adds.

This is not the first time that an accident has occurred in the same place, according to residents in the sector.
“It’s the second year that happens!” Indicates Lise Rheault.
“The person arrived a little slower,” recalls Annie Gauthier. There had been less damage to the vehicle. But still, it could have been so fatal in this case. ”
For the mayor of Bécancour, the Tuesday accident is not, however, attributable to the configuration of the Missouri road: “We must say it: it is inappropriate behavior. Alcohol driving is criminal. “
In terms of speed, an educational radar is already installed at the entrance to the village of Precieux-Sang. The police promise to be present wherever citizens tell them excess.
“It’s part of our patrol, to go to sectors where issues are reported,” says Ms. Cossette.

The Sûreté du Québec had not noted special events in the sector in the past.
Like many, Annie Gauthier may have the images of the accident in mind for a long time.
“It still creates a certain stress. I will not go on purpose so that my child can play there, in front of the field … We will have fun elsewhere, let’s say, “she concludes.
