It is not necessary to the energy contract urgently, reacted Thursday the regulator of the energy sector at the federal level, the CREG, while calls are heard, in particular of price comparators, to urgently review its energy contract.

In May, prices continued to drop, both for fixed and variable contracts for and for gas supply contracts, the decline being about 5% for electricity and 12% for natural gas. Price comparators therefore believe that it is time to possibly change a contract.

But CREG notes that around 70% of households have an active variable contract and therefore “automatically take advantage of price reductions” et “should not do anything.“There is therefore no emergency to suddenly change the contract.

We suggest that it is now or never but we must examine what we have. There is no emergency“Said the CREG spokesperson, Annemarie de Vreese.

On the other hand, consumers who have a fixed contract, concluded in 2023 or 2024, would be well inspired to compare prices on the regulator’s website, with CREG-SCAN, and to consider a change of contract.

The regulator still stresses that fixed gas contracts are 23% or 185 euros per year more expensive than variable contracts.

For electricity, the difference is around 22% or 115 euros on an annual basis. Within the current offer in variable contracts, price differences are considerable and reach 300 to 400 euros on an annual basis.

In the fixed contract offer, price differences can reach 250 euros for electricity and up to 500 euros for gas.
