Eaton presents the EV Truetrac differential designed for electric vehicles (VE). The design meets the challenges posed by the propulsion systems of the EV, in particular the shared environments of low viscosity oil, the increased sensitivity to the noise and the requirements of a high and instant torque.
The Detroit Truetrac d’Eaton, a sliding differential limited to helical gear, was a solution to improve traction, maneuverability and stability on various platforms of vehicles. Today, while more and more vehicles are switching to electric, Eaton has introduced the Trurac EV to meet the evolution of needs.
Unlike internal combustion motor vehicles, which use heavy transmission oil in their differentials, the VE drive modules share a lubrication system with the engine and use low viscosity oils that flow more like water. Eaton Truetrac has been redesigned with advanced micro-geometry adjustment to guarantee sustainability in this thinner oil environment. In addition, progress in material science has been applied to ensure longevity in high torque applications.
Eaton has refined the design of the gear to minimize noise while retaining its characteristic continuous operation. The characteristics of torque are also different in the VEs, which provide a high and instant torque. The differential was designed to withstand these charges while offering superior traction under urban and off -road conditions.
