Everything indicates that a cigarette meck badly turned off in a flowerpot would be involved in the fire that damaged a Sherbrooke housing building on the night of Monday to Tuesday.
The fire severely damaged a triplex on Durham Street, when the fire broke out around 1:56 am.
Martin Primeau, director of the Sherbrooke fire protection service, confirmed that the building was strongly affected. The roof collapsed and the losses are estimated at $ 300,000.
Listen to the interview granted by Martin Primeau, from firefighters to Sherbrooke, to animators Steve Roy and Valérie St-Jean.
-It took three alarms and twenty firefighters to overcome the blaze which was very impressive, adds Martin Primeau.
“It is often said that we don’t need the address in conditions like that. There was really an orange glow in the sky. So yes, it was the roof that burned. The flame was visible several kilometers around the blaze. ”
The four residents were relocated by the Red Cross or in relatives.
No one injured was reported among residents or firefighters.
