Android 16 should integrate a new original security function. Called intrusion detection, it will protect smartphones against physical intrusions through a newspaper losing unusual activities.
Today, our smartphones have become so much an extension of ourselves that we must always have an eye on it, for fear that someone come to rummage in and spy on us. Faced with the growing threat that strikes our personal data, smartphones manufacturers must strengthen their protection systems. For its part, Google has added a whole bunch of functions in this direction to Android smartphones, starting with protections against phishing and spam, or even increased monitoring of access authorizations. And he does not intend to stop there!
The Mountain View firm may well introduce, within Android 16 – this new version is expected for the fall of 2025 – a new function centered this time on software attacks, but on physical intrusions. Called “intrusion detection”, it would keep track of the activities of the device, so that its owner can be informed of unusual activities on it and check if his phone was handled by a third party without his authorization.
Intrusion detection: an end -to -end activity journal
This new function, spotted by Android Authority, in the code of version 25.18.31 of Google Play Services, is still under development. It takes the form of a newspaper that records system and network activities, which the user could analyze in the event of suspicious activity. Actions such as USB connections, the installation of new applications, Bluetooth connections, interactions with the lock screen, navigation history as well as Wi-Fi network changes.
This newspaper is stored on Google Drive and encrypted from start to finish, which means that absolutely nobody, including Google, cannot access the data it contains, with the exception of the owner of the smartphone, of course. This must be authenticated by informing the password of the Google account and applying one of the unlocking methods configured on the device.
According to information collected by Android Authority, intrusion detection is similar to an extension of the advanced protection program of Android. The objective of this program is to offer reinforced security to users to protect information from their account, especially for high -risk users such as journalists, activists or political leaders. For the moment, this function is still inactive in the current versions of Android. Its integration seems to be planned as part of the deployment of Android 16, although no official calendar has been communicated by the Mountain View firm.
