The deputy for the XVᵉ Legislature, Papa Tahirou Sarr, addressed a delicate and worrying question concerning the disturbing increase in begging in Dakar in a question addressed to the Minister of the Interior. In an official document dated May 5, 2025, he deplored an “untenable situation” caused by beggars, particularly those “from Mali, Guinea and Niger”. The parliamentarian underlines a blatant violation of article 245 of the Senegalese penal code which formally prohibits public begging, except in specific religious cases. The deputy requests concrete responses on government measures to stem this situation, believing that inaction harms the territorial and legal sovereignty of Senegal. The situation has been won around the dissemination of certain media, following the decree of the Minister of communication. A certain confusion surrounded an appeal introduced against this ban. Media has hastily claimed that the Supreme Court had declared this appeal admissible, when it was in reality the presentation of the applicant’s requests, combined with an official court decision. The deputy Amadou specifies that the shared documents carry, in fact, the signature and the stamp of the applicant’s lawyer, not that of the Supreme Court itself. In sports news, Senegal faced a heavy defeat in the U20 African Cup of Nations against Ghana, ending once again with disillusionment. A goal conceded in the first half was enough for the black satellites to ensure victory, placing the young lions in a delicate position after a draw against the Central African Republic. With only one point in two games, Senegal is now forced to defeat the DRC during the next meeting to hope to survive in this competition.
