
Kenny Atkinson, after a season at the head of the Cleveland Cavaliers, was elected coach of the year in the NBA. The 57 -year -old coach joined the riders at the off -season last year: from 4th place to the East with 48 successes, the “Cavs” went to 64 victories at the top of the conference, a first since 2016, during the second pass of Lebron James in Ohio.
He had officiated last summer as an assistant to Vincent Collet for the French male team, contributing to the Blues Olympic silver medal in Paris. Atkinson is the third Cleveland coach to receive this distinction, after Bill Fitch (1976) and Mike Brown (2009), after having experienced three series of 12 or more successful, one first.
He had made his return last year as a main coach in the NBA, after a first experience in Brooklyn (2016-2020), followed by deputy roles at the Los Angeles Clippers (2020-2021) and the Golden State Warriors (2021-2024). Following the vote of 100 media personalities, he was ahead of the Detroit coach JB Bickerstaff and that of Houston Ime Udoka for this distinction.
