As part of the strengthening of economic and commercial relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Arab Republic of Egypt, a Moroccan delegation led by Omar Hjira, Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade, in charge of foreign trade, made an official visit to Cairo on May 4.
Composed of representatives of the Moroccan Confederation of Exporters, the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM), the Federation of Moroccan Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services, as well as economic operators from the agriculture, agrifood, automotive, electronics, pharmacy, textiles, etc., the Moroccan delegation was received in a partnership and cooperation.
This visit is a continuation of the efforts made by the governments of the two countries, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, to consolidate trade, promote economic integration and deepen the historical links uniting the two nations.
The discussions highlighted the importance of diversifying exchanges between the two economies, the potential of which remains under-exploited despite the existence of many preferential agreements, such as the Agadir Agreement, the Arab free trade area or the African continental free trade area (ZLECAF).
new initiatives to accelerate economic integration
-The two parties agreed with a set of concrete measures to stimulate bilateral exchanges, including the creation of a joint cooperation platform bringing together the public and private sectors, responsible for removing obstacles to trade; the coordination of positions in African and international forums, with a view to amplifying regional integration; The holding, in the last quarter of 2025, of a meeting of the joint commercial committee as well as the periodic organization of business forums between Moroccan and Egyptian operators, alternating between the two countries. The latter also agreed to establish crossed economic weeks, namely an economic week of Morocco in Egypt and another from Egypt in Morocco; to conclude a memorandum of understanding to facilitate trade; to set up a strategic coordination on the African markets, operating complementary geographic positions: Egypt in East Africa and Morocco in West Africa, and to strengthen access to national brands in the respective markets.
On the sidelines of the visit, a bilateral economic forum B2B was organized under the aegis of the Egyptian Minister of Investment, Hassan El-Khatib, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hjira. This forum has enabled companies in the two countries to explore partnership opportunities in sectors with high potential: seafood, car components, medical devices, cosmetics, chemistry, engineering, etc.
The two delegations welcomed advances made since the ministerial visit of February 27 in Rabat, highlighting a positive dynamic marked by an intensification of exchanges and a common desire to move on to an operational phase.
This visit marks a decisive stage to a more ambitious and balanced economic partnership between Morocco and Egypt, in the service of shared development and South-South cooperation.
